Appearance Grades
Kiwi Lumber producers a range of appearance grade products from pruned logs, with the objective of maximising Clear grade recovery. Our appearance products are visually graded by qualified graders, and externally audited to ensure accurate and consistent grades. These appearance grades are available in various conditions including rough sawn, planed or profiled, treated and as cut to length components.
No. 1 Clears
Clear on both faces and both edges, may contain occasional small blemishes. Suitable for mouldings, furniture, boards, cladding and decking where clear, long lengths are required.
No. 2 Clears
Clear on one face and one edge. The second edge may contain a characteristic no more than 1/3 of the thickness. Suitable for usage where one clear face, two clear edges are required.
Dressing Grade
May contain up to three major defects no more than 30mm in diameter on the Dressing Grade face. Defect combinations on the back face up to ½ the width of the board. Used for furniture, boards, panelling, and high quality exterior use.
No 1 Cuttings Grade
Each piece shall yield one 1.8 metre clear cutting, with balance of cuttings averaging 1.0 metre. Minimum of 70% recovery of clear cuttings.
No. 2 Cuttings Grade
Each piece shall yield 70% of its length in clear cuttings 0.600 metres and over.
No. 3 Cuttings Grade
Each piece shall yield 60% of its length in clear cuttings of 0.200 metres and over.
Merch Grade
A general utility grade allowing knots up to ½ the width of the board, and may contain pith. Economically used for workshop and warehouse shelving, framing for upholstery furniture and fence palings.
Packaging-Industrial Grade
Suitable for packaging, pallets and other industrial use.

Lengths: 1.8 metres to 4.8 metres. Other Lengths by special request
General Information
- Timber is shown machined to clarify appearance. Can also be supplied sawn.
- Kiwi Lumber will produce grades and sizes to customer requests and customise standard grades to meet specific needs.
- Target moisture content is 10 to 12%, range may be 8-14%.
